Mike Jackson - Texas Education Alliance - Managing Principal

Mike Jackson ~ MANAGING PRINCIPAL

Mike is an experienced professional in the U.S. education publishing, technology, and curriculum market. With over 30 years of senior-level sales and marketing experience, he founded the Texas Education Alliance. As Principal, Mike focuses on tailored services for the Texas education market, including state and district relationships, accountability analyses, strategic leadership, and advocacy at all levels.

Throughout his career, Mike held executive positions in renowned education companies like School Specialty, iLearn, and Focus Marketing. He specialized in expanding market presence, developing distribution channels, and creating competitive sales and marketing strategies.

For the past several years, Mike has collaborated as a strategic partner with Education Market Experts, where he  provided expertise in sales, marketing, channel partnerships, and business innovation to startup and global education companies. He also still serves as a trusted advisor in sales and marketing for leading ed-tech companies.

With a personal connection to Texas, including raising his children in Texas public schools, Mike brings extensive knowledge of the Texas education market and a deep passion for the state.


Chad Cantella ~ Chief Lobby Strategist

Chad is a prominent figure in Texas politics, currently serving as the Chief Lobby Strategist for the Texas Education Alliance. With over 20 years of experience, he is a nonpartisan consultant specializing in lobbying, political strategy, public affairs, and business development. His extensive background encompasses federal, state, and local government as well as political campaigns. Chad is also a founding principal of the highly regarded lobby firm, Texas Star Alliance.

Throughout his career, Chad has successfully lobbied and consulted for a diverse range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies and national industry groups. He has particularly notable expertise in key policy areas such as education, healthcare, safety and security, criminal justice, and workforce. Some of his esteemed clients include Scholastic, Centegix, Kindercare, Powerschool, SAS, and the Texas Computer Education Association.

Chad's professional accomplishments have garnered recognition, including the Texas Education Council's "Advocate Leader" award, the "Silver Boot" award for legislative victories benefiting at-risk youth (Big Brothers Big Sisters Lonestar), the "Healthcare Champion" award for excellence in Medicaid policy (Private Providers Association of Texas), and his recent accolade as one of the top lobbyists in Texas by "Capitol Inside. Com," placing him in the upper 1% of the "hired gun" rankings.

Chad's political acumen and instincts were honed through years of hands-on experience in the political arena and on campaign trails. He served in pivotal roles for numerous political organizations, including the George W. Bush for Governor campaign, Rick Perry for Lt. Governor campaign, Michael Williams for Railroad Commissioner campaign, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the Republican Party of Harris County, and The Campaign for America.

Chad is a proud graduate of Texas Christian University, where he earned a degree from the Bob Schiffer School in public relations and was honored with the TCU Newsome Award. He and his wife, Alison, reside in Austin, Texas, where they are active members of The Austin Stone Church. They are loving parents to two remarkable boys, Rex and Rowe.


Eric Knustrom ~ Lead Education Attorney

Eric serves as Lead Education Attorney for the Texas Education Alliance, bringing over two decades of legal experience to the field. His expertise spans from litigation to the art of legislative drafting, and he currently employs his legal acumen to shape the public policy landscape. Eric is a seasoned professional in legislative drafting and research, collaborating with legislators, stakeholders, and the legislative council to craft impactful legislation that translates policy into practical action.

Eric's legal journey began with him providing instruction in legal research at the University of Texas School of Law and St. Mary's School of Law for LexisNexis. Over time, he assumed the responsibility of overseeing more than 32 law schools in the Northeastern United States for LexisNexis. Following his tenure with LexisNexis, Eric's legal practice shifted toward general commercial litigation and eDiscovery, focusing on large-scale litigation matters before he found his calling in legislative practice. His current legal practice revolves around advising clients on their lobbying, ethics, and government affairs requirements. Eric represents non-profit associations, commercial interests, and individuals before the Texas Legislature and state agencies, offering legal guidance on matters related to compliance and the implementation of bills.

Eric's roots trace back to Clifton, Texas, in the heart of Central Texas. He attended Sam Houston State University on a debate scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Speech Communications. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a legal education at the University of Texas School of Law, obtaining his license to practice law in Texas in 2001.

Nestled just beyond Austin, Eric calls Dripping Springs home, sharing it with his wife, Lyne, and their son, Barrett. When he's not navigating the halls of the Capitol, Eric enthusiastically channels his energy into two distinct passions: championing the cause of homeless pets and embracing the art of golf, albeit with a penchant for less-than-stellar performances.
